{"id":20036,"date":"2022-03-08T17:50:04","date_gmt":"2022-03-08T17:50:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesocialelement.agency\/?p=20036"},"modified":"2022-03-08T17:50:06","modified_gmt":"2022-03-08T17:50:06","slug":"international-womens-day-stories-from-female-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesocialelement.agency\/international-womens-day-stories-from-female-leaders","title":{"rendered":"International Women\u2019s Day: Stories from female leaders at The Social Element  (1)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Being female owned and run by an all female leadership team, we love celebrating International Women\u2019s Day and sharing stories from some of the fabulous females at the agency.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This year, following on from their amazing win of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrum.com\/news\/2021\/10\/11\/the-social-element-the-all-female-leadership-team-disrupting-social-media-marketing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leadership Team of the Year<\/a> at The Drum Agency Awards in 2021, our five female leaders share their stories and experiences when breaking into the world of marketing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First up is our Chief Operating Officer, Treena Hales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"flex-video widescreen vimeo\"><iframe title=\"Treena Hales: Chief Operating Officer #IWD2022\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/685908226?h=22c970e619&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Inspiration through empathy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspiration comes from many places. For Treena, this happened early on in her career. She told us about a head of department she\u2019d worked with very early in her career who inspired her through her focus on empathy in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cI was really junior, and yet she took the time to coach me. I was naive and she gently nurtured me. She taught me to put myself into the shoes of others to understand the impact that my actions had on others.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Treena finds inspiration in all the women she works with and believes that every woman you meet can enrich your life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understanding the importance of genuine human relationships<\/strong> on International Women&#8217;s Day<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>What would you tell your younger self? For Treena, it\u2019s that people and relationships are the key to success. Listening to people, even if you don\u2019t understand what they are talking about, is vital. It\u2019s important to keep an open mind and know that what they share could be useful and insightful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cWhen I was young, I kind of took the hard road way more than I needed to. I felt that success was about making it alone. I was wrong. There is strength in letting others help you.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Treena points out, people often love to help others. It makes us feel good when we can do something significant for someone else, and it\u2019s a great feeling to have our role in another person\u2019s success acknowledged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Women need to keep a keener eye out for opportunities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Treena feels that her gender has given her an advantage when it comes to her career. While there have been times when she felt she had to prove herself more than her male colleagues, she sees these instances as a chance to push herself more and work out how to navigate (or change) the established system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cIf being a woman ever held me back, I\u2019m not aware of it now. And it certainly didn\u2019t hold me back for long.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Defensiveness can be self-defeating\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some advice from very early in her career has stayed with Treena.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to interpersonal issues &#8211; such as miscommunication &#8211; it\u2019s important not to become too defensive in your stance. If something you\u2019ve said or done has hurt someone &#8211; even if that wasn\u2019t your intention &#8211; it\u2019s much better to apologise than dig down and insist that you\u2019re in the right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cShe<\/strong> <strong>told me that apologising was not only the right thing to do but a strong thing to do and the quickest way to fix the relationship that was now damaged. Not only did it work, but it was a massive lesson in self-awareness in how I come across and in understanding how I communicate with people.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Treena, empathy, relationship building and making the best out of your situation are what helped shape her career .
